The problem is that insurance companies will only go with documented sales data, which mostly comes from car dealersips, used cars sales, etc..... They reserve the right to use whichever method they want. If you can produce reciepts for auto upgrades, wheels, paint, engine upgrades, you might move up the payoff. However, did you call to advise Gieco of those upgrades and increase your policy limits ?? If not, they may not be liable above the average resale value. Also, insurance should payoff the full NADA value, not the wholesale 80% price, I think they are a little on the low side of the value. You should consider consulting a lawyer before settling. It sounds like you were hit by another driver and I'm betting that guys insurance adjuster is hoping to lowball you with a cheap settlement. Talk to an attorney, you have rights and those blood sucking vampires/lawyers will benefit you in cases like this. Also, on your next car, consider Collectible/Antique insurance which has higher rates, but the policy will cover more than what a regular policy will. But like I said, if your dealing with someone else's insurance company, then that adjuster is operating in the best interests of his client and the company and they will screw you unless you get help. How's your neck and back? Any tension, soreness or muscle pain. Turn your neck slowly side to side, then lower your head and look at your feet, then raise your and lean back, any pain or tension, go see a lawyer for sure and a doctor too. Not that I'm suggesting you get one of those whip lash things around your neck, but you may have an injury and not even realize it. It's not too late to file a medical claim if you have one. I was in a 4 car pile up near Carrolton, GA, felt fine afterwards, next seemed okay. 3 days later, I lifted clothes up off the floor to wash, felt mild tension in my back near my shoulder blades. So I called the Doc and updated the insurance agent. No big deal, but 2 visits and got Flexeril for tension and compensation for lost time from work. But anyway, once I realized the agent was lowballing the price of my old 1992 Z-32 NA, I produced receipts for my stereo, speakers, window tint, headers, and wheels and got full price for those items. I got full vlaue for my car, but not as high as I could have sold it for. They don't care about custom cars with performance parts. Collector insurance policies will cover more than full value, but someone else's insurance will not. But with collector insurance, if someone destroys your ride in a wreck, you can collect more than NADA value from your policy and the collector insurance company will go after the other guys insurance for the difference between NADA value and full resale value based on what you claim the car is worth.
